If you are a fashion designer, textile designer, jewelry designer, product designer, from the beauty industry, musician, writer or even a sculptor…..and if you are looking for inspiration. If you are going to Paris and you have very limited time. I highly recommend you to go to “Colette”. The coolest place in Paris! It is the center of all the great ideas gather together and display them in front of your eyes!
Address: 213 rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris
Opening Hrs: Mon-Sat: 11:00-19:00
Colette is the busiest designer store ( somewhat a pop culture visitor’s center) I have ever seen in Paris, no matter when during the day, it’s always pack with visitors. In fact, visiting Colette is really a unique experience, thanks to the incredible selection and display of everything that’s hip, unique and hard to find. You can expect to find books, jewelry, clothes, design objects, hip CDs, shoes, books, jewelry, clothes and electronics. While the store can get pricey, especially upstairs where the clothing gets couture-esque, there are still a ton of great options for gifts or personal indulgences. you will definitely be inspired!
Downstairs is a mixture of home, menswear and mens shoes and other odds and ends. Upstairs is the amazing womenswear, where there are no clothing racks rather the clothes are assembled into beautiful outfits and placed on mannequins. Further up there are some beauty and cosmetic products, followed by more menswear. There is also a small area where there are regular exhibits which change frequently.
The ground floor is great for anyone looking for streetwear & sneakers. An entire wall display features the shoes in various styles while the nearby glass cube display a good selection of t-shirts and jackets. Towards the back where you’ll discover a good assortment of gadgets, watches, CD’s and techie items.
If you’re a fashion designer, the first floor is where you will be hooked. Dozens of mannequins are positioned throughout the area, each one immaculately dressed, accessorized and with the appropriate footwear. It’s like walking around a contemporary fashion museum! They have a complete assortment of the fashion giant includes YSL, Balmain, Christopher Kane, Hermes, Burberry, Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf ….etc were all housed in the one room.
Don’t forget to check out the cosmetics section with beauty items ranging from Kiehl’s to Bliss, as well as the jewelry displays or the men’s designer section. The back area is split into to levels which is where Colette will host exhibitions or special collaboration events.
The water bar at the lower level which carries over 100 different kinds of water is a “must see”! I would definitely go at least once. Also the cafe downstairs was really only one of the two places that actually served a decent coffee in France.
